Saturday Rants : Smallville

In 2001, a show premiered on the WB. It told the story of Clark Kent in his teenage years trying to cope with his abilities and earning new ones.

In 2001 I was six years old and I have no recollection of ever watching it. But in 2004, when it premiered on ABC Family I knew I would be hooked. It's been ten years since it premiered, seven years since I've been a fan and my obsession is still going strong.

Smallville gives us a powerful message that enourages people to go for their dreams, never give up and to always stick by your friends and family. It shows us, even through the tough times, friends will always be there for you.

The whole journey through Smallville has been an incredible one and since it's on its last season, I know I'll be bawling like a baby. Sort of like how I'll react to teh end of Harry Potter and teh Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Smallville isn't just a show. It's a way of life. Everything in this show has led me to become a better human being. Okay, now I'm just exaggerating. But this show has taught me some morals. As in, what's the point of being mean when karma will come back and bite you in the butt. But that's not the point of this post.

Besides the protagonist being super hot, this show has some excellent story lines that keep you on your feet, yelling at the tv because the suspense is too much. I really am going to be sad when this show is over because I literally grew up with it. Hard to believe, I know but that's the truth. I was six when this first came out and I now I will be turning fifteen in September. Oh, how the time flies.

Hmm, I see I still love. :D

Nyxen Feels Off These Days

I don't know what it is. Ever since November (30 Days of Harry Potter) I've felt very off on my blog. I think it was because November was just a hectic time for me that I didn't have time to read or plan anything amazing on my blog.

But now you guys are suffering my non-posting frenzy...if you guys mind. I've just been drawing blanks on what to post on my blog. :/

I think I have bloggers-block. Either that or I'm too lazy to post anything. But that isn't the case because I don't know what to post. And it's also been worse ever since the accident.

But that will stop! I promise. I'm going to try and post EVERYDAY next year. :D What do you guys think? I really want to post everyday but now, I don't know what I will do.

I will try to have more author interviews! And maybe a something involving bloggers? I'm not sure yet.

Now that I see it, I think this post was just an excuse to have on my blog. *siiigh* I'm hopeless.

Nyxen on Speaking Up. Speaking Out. Speaking Loudly.

It hurts me to write this today, and not just because I'm dying of sickness. I've only been on the Internet for about twenty minutes today when I see a post like this. Now, I honestly didn't know how to react to this. I think Speak is one of the most amazing and inspiring books of all the time and what Dr. Wesley Scroggins said in this article is demeaning to everyone who thought this book was helpful.

I'm going to be blunt because that's the only way to get a point across. People are idiots. They want to ban a book because it's inappropriate to read but the reality of all of this is it actually happens in life. REAL LIFE. The concepts in Speak happen to girls of all ages almost everyday. And most of the time, no one ever knows. If a book like Speak helps girls (and boys) to speak up about their problems then don't ban it! In fact, embrace the power of what this book can do.

It just infuriates me that people have the power to ban a book that can relate to any teenager in their community. What are they going to do then? Ban that child? That's how I see it. Ban a book with real life events and you ban a child from your community who has gone through the same exact traumatic events as the one in the book. I just can't see how people, adults mostly, can be so thick-headed. They don't know what true literature is, and we never will know either if they keep banning books left and right.

The same goes for the novel Twenty Boys Summer. It talks about what real teenager will most likely do during the summer. Books like these are a pleasure to read and if some teenagers take things too literal don't blame and punish the rest of us for their idiotic actions.

I honestly don't know what goes through people's minds when they talk about banning books. I honestly don't know.

Nyxen on Clubs

Yesterday, our school had something called Club Rush. It's a time, once every beginning of the school year, where all club presidents meet in the quad and have sign up sheets for their clubs. I signed up for G.S.A. (Gay, Straight Alliance), F.H.A (Future Homemakers of America) and Key Club. I thought it would be very good to join something this year.

But after I joined those clubs, I started thinking. I want to do something to. I want to start my own club. And of course, it's a book club.

I want to do something that involves books, which is why I have a blog, but I also want to do something different. And then I realized that there isn't a book club at my school. I'm sure I'm not the only avid reader at a school of 3 thousand so I really want to do this. The thing is I'm not good at taking the lead or stepping up. I really have to break that habit.

I know that starting this book club would be a very good opportunity for me and other people who love to read. Another problem I have is that I don't know how to come about it. At my school, you have to have a sponsor. In this case it's a teacher. Now, I know most of you are book freaks (seeing as how you're reading this blog) so I want your opinions and tips and help. What do you think should go into starting a book club?

Besides my problems, I want to know about you guys. Are there clubs at your school? Have you joined any? Or, for the people not in school yet, which clubs are you anticipating to join? Leave a comment and discuss! :D

Nyxen On Books

If you look to your left you'll see a bookshelf filled with books. Well, that's my bookshelf with my books.

Now, I'm not showing you a picture of my books to get you jealous, which I doubt would happen because compared to others, I have nothing and I don't think you'll get jealous of my bookshelf. But because I noticed something. Yesterday, I learned about the magic of Shelfari, where you make your own online shelf. I got excited and immediately started putting every book I own on my virtual shelf.

After I did I noticed something. Most of my books are middle grade novels. And I find it weird because most of my YA novels are on the right whilst the MG novels are on the left. Now, there isn't anything wrong with MG novels but I just found it weird and amazing that I've been into reading for a very long time.

I think I began reading at the age of five and this was the first book I owned, besides most of the Cat in the Hat books. I, Amber Brown by Paula Danziger. A mere 140 pages yet it was something I treausred the most. My very first novel! I can't believe I still have it. It really is something magical when you have your first novel from when you were five. Just looking back, I've realized that I never loved reading. *Gasp*

In second grade, when we had tracks, I had to write my very first ever book report. We had to read a chapter book that was at least 100 pages long. I dreaded it. I read Junie B. Jones First Grader (At Last!). It had 98 pages and I hated reading it. For some reason, second and third grade were the worst reading years of my life. I despised reading. I thought it was so boring. But thank god that ended. And then in fifth grade I started reading again. But fanfiction on the internet. I was a big fan of Harry Potter back then, the movies. I hadn't read the books yet. And after reading a tremendous amount of fanfictions I decided to write my own. But I barely knew anything about Harry Potter so I decided to read the books.

I spent the my sixth grade reading all six Harry Potter books, getting in trouble for reading in class, and obsessing over how awesome they were! My friends hated me that year. So, for a very long time I never realized how many awesome books there were. And now, because of this blog and many, many other amazing bloggers, I have learned that there are a lot of books that I've learned about and want.

Mostly, I just want to own a library, fill it with books and read the entire day. And maaybe even fill that library with some of my own books. That's in the future and I'm just glad I got the chance to be able to read.

Nyxen's Review of Eclipse: The Movie Plus Something More

This is my first movie review so let's see what happens.

I saw Eclipse on Friday, July 2 and let me tell you, it was pretty darn awesome. I say that Eclipse is the best movie out of the other two. It was more action packed and was just better. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have really evolved as their characters in this movie.

Their acting was so much better and it actually felt like I was watching an actual movie. David Slade is brilliant, he is amazing. I'm so glad he directed this movie. Everything was completely different when he directed. The movie followed the book very well that it was impossible for a Twihard NOT to love it. Even though the first two movies didn't exceed my expectations, this one did. It was just amazing.

Ever since Twilight was going to come out, the Saga erupted. It was suddenly everywhere and, only if you were living under rock, you knew what it was and who the brilliant mind behind the novels was. Everywhere you turned, there it was, staring at you. Whether it be a poster, a shirt, or an accessory, there it was.

I know I'm going way out there with the movie review but I feel this must be said.

People say that Stephenie Meyer is a joke of a writer. That she can't write worth a damn. But I say that isn't true, even if I do sometimes question her act of writing. If she couldn't write, she wouldn't have gotten an agent. If she couldn't write, she wouldn't have been published. If she couldn't write, she wouldn't have had her book optioned for a movie. Meyer has created a world where an ordinary girl could get the hottest, unique, most perfect guy. Where not all vampires are monsters but sparkle in the sunlight. Where you could have a best friend who is also a werewolf. Some say this is stupid but I know you are all jealous that you don't have a perfect boyfriend.

I was one of those, and then it made me hate it. But I realized that there isn't any point to hate a book which got many people to start reading again.

That's something I treasure with The Twilight Saga. Stephenie Meyer wrote a book which made everyone pick up and start reading, even when they hated to read. Twilight has changed the lives of many people. Now everyone wants to find more books and just devour them. That's what I love about it.

I went way off topic. This was supposed to be a review for the movie. I'm sorry about this but I still hope you enjoyed reading this.

Nyxen On Writing

I tend to be a very bad writer. Not in the sense that my writing sucks but that I don't write. For some strange reason, even with brilliant ideas forming in my head, I don't write. There's something in that begs me to write and write but I just don't. I can't tell whether I'm procrastinating or just lazy but I just don't write. It sometimes eats me alive because I have to write, I just have to.

My dream is to write books for people. That's what I want to do. But if I can't write anything now, will I be able to write in the future? Right now I am writing this post but I'm staring at this notebook next to me and it's begging to be written on. Either that or my characters just won't stop for a couple of seconds for me to finish this post. Whatever the case I have to write but I just can't. Has this ever happened to you? If so, what did you do?

I'm thinking I should lock myself up in my room and turn of every electronic device, grab my notebook and just write. That's what I did last night. It was very refreshing but the only problem was, I wrote at night.

There is no hope for me. But on a bright note I will write right now. There is no stopping me today! Hope you enjoyed my rant. Just thought I should get it out there.
