Nyxen Says Goodbye to 2010

Happy New Years Eve everyone! Can you believe that it's almost 2011? I sure can't. It feels just like yesterday when we were counting down to 2010. And it's strange that I can still remember what I was doing a year ago time. I made a video-it's still on youtube, username: NyxenProductions-telling everyone my new year resolutions. I haven't watched that video but I can still barely remember my resolutions and let me just tell you that I failed, completely.

But I can say that my biggest resolution (not mentioned in the video) was starting a blog. I didn't start this blog until Apri but I am so glad I started then. Better then than now because I wouldn't have met all these great authors and bloggers. Starting this blog was a major step up for me. It taught me responsibility and to never procrastinate, which I still do. :P

Oh, I was alsoo supposed to make another video to go along with that one from last year but I didn't. Well, I'm not sure. I still have a couple of hours so it MIGHT be posted at the end of this post....Probably not.

2010 is now gone and done with and I expect 2011 will be even better. A decade might be ending but a new one is just beginning.

In 2010, I found out that I can't do everything. I found out who my real friends are, real and online. I found out a guy will never make you happy (evenn if I tell everyone that it took me awhile for it to sink in). I found out I won't be happy with myself unless I think positive. I found out that books practically run my life. And I found out that I'm completely fine with how my life is turning out.

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! May your New Year be filled with everything you want it to be. :D

Until next time,

Nyxen's Journey In Colorado (Day 2)

If you remember from last post, we made it to Colorado in one piece. Now let's talk about the day after, Monday July 26, 2010.

Monday was probably one of the worst days just because I woke up at around 6am. I haven't had a proper night's sleep in about two days. We woke up at that time because at 7am, my brother had practice. Practice at 7 freaking AM! I hated it. I was in a grouchy mood for a couple of hours. But I had food and then I was better. :P So, my brother practiced for a couple hours in a baseball field in Colorado. That was pretty cool and then when they finished their practice, we got bored.

It took us awhile to decide what to do but then one of the parents said we should go on a hike. Honestly, we weren't dressed in hiking clothing. I was wearing converse, black skinny jeans, and a white, sort-of dressy shirt. Seriously, those clothes are not meant for hiking. So we went to this place. I have no idea what it was called but there was a waterfall! I love waterfalls so I got excited. The walk from the starting point to the waterfall was about a quarter of a mile but it seemed even longer! I was probably out of shape back then. :P

We walked to the the beginning of the river, crossed the bridge, took pictures and admired the beauty of the wonderful, lively waterfall. It was breathtaking. And we also got to climb rocks leading up to the waterfall. It may sound weird but everyone just kept climbing rock after rock. I got some of that on video so when I get my video camera all set up I'll post it on here. :D That was a good day because it's not everyday you see a waterfall. It actually inspired me to write a story with that setting. That won't come until much later.

After the hike, we went back to the hotel and just chilled. I honestly went back, got my laptop, and strayed to the lobby where the internet lived while everyone went to the pool and did some activities. I also think that day we had a BBQ birthday for a kid but I can't remember if it was this day or a different day...Grrr. I'll probably write is in another day....Dang! Why can't I remmeber?!

Well, that was my Monday in Colorado. :D

How was your day today?

Nyxen on Speaking Up. Speaking Out. Speaking Loudly.

It hurts me to write this today, and not just because I'm dying of sickness. I've only been on the Internet for about twenty minutes today when I see a post like this. Now, I honestly didn't know how to react to this. I think Speak is one of the most amazing and inspiring books of all the time and what Dr. Wesley Scroggins said in this article is demeaning to everyone who thought this book was helpful.

I'm going to be blunt because that's the only way to get a point across. People are idiots. They want to ban a book because it's inappropriate to read but the reality of all of this is it actually happens in life. REAL LIFE. The concepts in Speak happen to girls of all ages almost everyday. And most of the time, no one ever knows. If a book like Speak helps girls (and boys) to speak up about their problems then don't ban it! In fact, embrace the power of what this book can do.

It just infuriates me that people have the power to ban a book that can relate to any teenager in their community. What are they going to do then? Ban that child? That's how I see it. Ban a book with real life events and you ban a child from your community who has gone through the same exact traumatic events as the one in the book. I just can't see how people, adults mostly, can be so thick-headed. They don't know what true literature is, and we never will know either if they keep banning books left and right.

The same goes for the novel Twenty Boys Summer. It talks about what real teenager will most likely do during the summer. Books like these are a pleasure to read and if some teenagers take things too literal don't blame and punish the rest of us for their idiotic actions.

I honestly don't know what goes through people's minds when they talk about banning books. I honestly don't know.

Have anything to share? Leave them in the comments!

Nyxen's Birthday Bash Giveaway

Today is a pretty damn amazing day. Today is not only the official release of Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers and A Good Addiction's One Year Blogoversary, but it's also my fifteenth birthday!

In the Hispanic/Latino heritage, it is cultural for a 15 year old girl to have a big bash, signaling that she has become a young woman. It's just an excuse for everyone to party. :D I was supposed to have but we started planning too late. It literally takes a year to plan a Quinceanera. So, instead of one of those, I'm going to have a Sweet Sixteen next year. We have started planning for that. :D

And you know what a birthday means, right? PRESENTS! And not presents for me, for you! That's right. I'm having a giveaway on my birthday! Isn't that exciting?

Here's what you'll get:

(Um, since my laptop is currently dead and I'm using my mom's laptop, I don't have pictures to show you.)

The Hunger Games Paperback
Any book of your choice. (It must be out by the time this giveaway ends because I'll be buying it.)
Swag. (Some stuff will be signed)
And a cool bag looking thing. It's Harajuku Lovers brand.
It looks like that only clear, plastic, rectangular and a little bigger. That's where the stuff is going to be in.

So what do you think?! I think it's pretty awesome for my first giveaway.

Requirements:
-Must be 13 years or older. (Or have parent's permission)
-Must live in the U.S. (Sorry International followers and people. I'm pretty broke)
-Ends September 30, 2010. (But if needed, it can extended.)

PLEASE FILL THIS FORM OUT TO BE ENTERED IN THE GIVEAWAY!

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me! :D

What did you do today?

Nyxen on Clubs

Yesterday, our school had something called Club Rush. It's a time, once every beginning of the school year, where all club presidents meet in the quad and have sign up sheets for their clubs. I signed up for G.S.A. (Gay, Straight Alliance), F.H.A (Future Homemakers of America) and Key Club. I thought it would be very good to join something this year.

But after I joined those clubs, I started thinking. I want to do something to. I want to start my own club. And of course, it's a book club.

I want to do something that involves books, which is why I have a blog, but I also want to do something different. And then I realized that there isn't a book club at my school. I'm sure I'm not the only avid reader at a school of 3 thousand so I really want to do this. The thing is I'm not good at taking the lead or stepping up. I really have to break that habit.

I know that starting this book club would be a very good opportunity for me and other people who love to read. Another problem I have is that I don't know how to come about it. At my school, you have to have a sponsor. In this case it's a teacher. Now, I know most of you are book freaks (seeing as how you're reading this blog) so I want your opinions and tips and help. What do you think should go into starting a book club?

Besides my problems, I want to know about you guys. Are there clubs at your school? Have you joined any? Or, for the people not in school yet, which clubs are you anticipating to join? Leave a comment and discuss! :D

P.S. What would be a very awesome book club name?

Nyxen's Journey In Colorado (Day 1)

I am seriously pissed right now. I had everything typed up and my stupid butt suddenly presses the wrong button and deletes everything!!! The whole freaking thing is deleted. And now I have to start all over. I'm pissed. I don't think I can write it like I did the first time.
--------------------------------------

If you remember from a month ago, I told you guys I was going on vacation. Anyway, this post-and several others later on-will be all about my vacation to Colorado and what we did. Let's get it started now!

On July 24, 2010, my family and I woke up to a very busy and exciting day. It was the day that we were all waiting for. We finally made it to our trip. From 9 am to 5pm, everything was hectic. We were all running around, trying to figure out if we had everything. Our bags were packed and we were just waiting for my brother's friend Robert and his mom, Liz. They arrived at around 2 and it was now my dad's job to try and get all of our luggage into my mom's truck. My dad told me that my suitcase was going to go on top of the truck and I pleaded, telling him I wouldn't let him do that. I was just scared that my bag was going to fall off while we were on the freeway. After much consideration and reluctance my dad finally put my bag in the trunk. I was very grateful. :P

My dad got evrything to fit but we still had one more person to pick up, my uncle. My mom drove, my dad was in the passenger seat, me and Liz were in the next row of seats and then my brother and Robert were in the last row of seats. It doesn't seem like a very packed car but trust me, it was. Especially after we picked up my uncle. My dad had to make room for his two bags and I had to squeeze in the middle. I'm not very fond of middle seats and sometimes I think I get claustrophobic. After that, we went to the park to wait for everyone else.

In case you didn't know why I went to Colorado, I'll tell. My brother, he's a baseball player, just nine (now ten) years old. He is on the Valley Cats Travel Team. Because of him, we do travel a nice amount. But mostly around California. We were going to Colorado because it was hosting the Triple Crown World Series. That is why we went.

So, we went to the park to wait for the rest of the team because I guess they wanted to caravan. They all wanted to get to the hotel at the same time, I guess. While we were waiting, another parent had brought window paint. So for the remainder of the time-an hour and a half-we all wrote things on the car's windows. Mostly supportive slogans, the kid's numbers and their names. At 5:30 pm we decided to leave the park and start driving.

The first hours in the car weren't that bad. I guess it was all that buzz and excitedness from getting to Colorado. After driving, and driving, and driving, my dad finally decided that the car need gas. So we stopped at Death Valley. Seriously, out of all the places we could have stopped at, we stopped at one of the hottest places in California during the summer! It was about 109 degrees. It was torture. I feel sorry for those of you who live in places like that. I wonder how you manage.

I honestly don't remember where else we stopped. All I know is that we went through California(obviously), Nevada, Arizona, Utah and then Colorado.

The sleeping arrangements were horrid..(can I use that word?) My mom had stopped driving around Las Vegas so she came and sat next to me while my uncle sat in the passengers seat. My dad was driving. I couldn't fall asleep at all so my mom made me lay my head on her lap. But that isn't very comfortable when you're sitting and trying to avoid making contact with the person sitting next to you. Everything was just awkward. But in the end I did fall asleep, occasionally waking up but that was about it.

It wasn't until 7 AM when I officially woke up and we were finally in Colorado. That was probably 6 AM pacific time and 9 eastern time. Yes, I know my time zones. :P We stopped and ate McDonald's and then continued driving. We were in Colorado but not yet to Steamboat Springs. That was even further than Denver. So we drove, and drove and drove all morning when we finally made it to Steamboat Springs, Colorado!

We were staying at a hotel called Celebrity Resorts Hilltop. It sounds very fancy but trust me, it wasn't! Our only dilemma was that our room wasn't ready. SO we waited for another hour or so until it was. In the meantime, though, we explored and found a restaurant. It was called The Egg and I. At first, it didn't sound so appetizing because I'm not a fan of eggs. I mean, whenever ever I eat just a small amount I get kind of sick. After we were done eating the front desk of the hotel called us letting us know that our room was ready. We left the restaurant and immediately went back to the hotel.

We got our key and went in. The rooms were pretty big. The main room had a kitchen filled with supplies, a bathroom, a living room with two couches and a tv, and a closet. That's where my uncle slept. The next room was the master bedroom where my parents and brother slept. There was a dresser, a chair, a desk, a tv, a queen sized bed, a closet, a walk-in closet and a bathroom. That was awesome!. :P The next room was a connecting room, it only had two beds, a tv, a small kitchenette, a bathroom and a closet. Robert and Liz slept on one bed while I got the other. The whole room together was pretty big.

For the remainder of the day we unpacked, explored the hotel and went grocery shopping. :D I learned that the hotel had five stories, a pool, a mini-golf course, tennis courts, and a small picnic area. And the only accessible internet I could get was at the lobby. I was angry at that but I survived.

And, that was my first day at Colorado, a different state entirely. Stay tuned for more amazing posts on my trip to Colorado.

And forgive me for not posting any pictures. I'm using my mom's laptop because mine is currently taking a 'break.' She needs a new charger and I don't know when I'll get that.

What did you think? Pretty boring day, huh?

Nyxen's First Day of School

Yesterday was my first day of school. D: I can't believe I'm already a sophomore! A tenth grader for pete's sake. I'm getting older and older by the year. Before I know I it, I'm going to be in college! That's a scary thought.

Okay, well my first day went uneventful. As in nothing happened.

I got there around 8:40 and immediately went to the bathroom. I just went in there because I didn't see any of my friends. I know, I'm a loser. :P I spent about five minutes in there but I was with one of my acquaintances so I was okay. I then went outside and saw my friends walking in. I have very good timing. ;P

8:56 The bell rang and it was time for homeroom. My homeroom stays the same so I had the exact same one as last year. Gym. But you don't actually do anything. So I was in there for about ten minutes when I found out I was in the wrong homeroom. I guess they changed my room so I had to go to the office and look at a chart with all homerooms. It was a lot of walking today. :P I looked an noticed it had changed. So I went there and got my real schedule. Hooray!

9:25 1st period. I have H English, or Honors English. (I'm a smart cookie. :P) I literally thought I was going to be alone. I was so nervous. So I get there and I already meet someone. She is really nice. I get in the classroom and notice it's everyone from my last classes from last year. I was surprised but also glad because I knew some friendly faces in there. We went over nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs...again. We also took a small quiz about them. It's wasn't tough but the one that got me was the word tomorrow. DO YOU KNOW WHAT PART OF SPEECH THAT IS? I put adverb and got it right! :P That was that class. :P

10:15 2nd period. I have H Algebra 2, or Honors Algebra 2. (Told you I was a smart cookie.) In there we just got to know the teacher and then she passed out our books. They were heavy, and it didn't help that I had to walk home after school. I also had a mini cough attack in there. It wasn't funny. People were staring at me. :/ Hmm, nothing else happened in there. More friendly faces though ! :D

11:08 3rd period. PE...worst period ever! When I got to my pe class I swore I knew no one in there! Scary stuff man. :P We also had to wait outside on the bleachers. It's so hot in California, especially at this time of year. But I'm also really excited for PE because I'm doing tennis. :D Never played tennis but I am super excited to try. I'll probably fail miserably.

11:58 4th period. Leadership/Student Government and maybe the best class ever! I'm one of kids in the school who gets to be in in student government. They are like the main honchos(?) of the school. They are in charge of almost everything fun at the school....and I'm apart of it! Well, in that class we actually got to know each other. Found out everyone's names and what not. That teacher is really awesome! Best person ever! We just keep laughing in that class. I'm sure I'll get to know everyone in that class as my family.

12:42 Lunch. The one period I was looking forward to. I left my SG class and went to our "spot." The spot where all my friends hang out. Two of my friends from middle school transferred to my high school so now we have added them to our group. At lunch we did nothing. :P We stood around and talked....and acted all that. (Just kidding.) But it was fun to be around each other after all this time. WOOOOH.

1:19 5th period. That is French 2. I was super nervous because I don't think I remember anything from French 1. Here we go. Je m'appelle Bianca Nadine. J'ai quinze (almost) ans. J'aime lire et écrire tous les jours. Je suis très timide mais travailleuse. And that's where I draw the line. Eh, not bad. :P So far, my french teacher isn't that bad. She's pretty nice. :D But then she made us do this bubble map thing and write about us. I'm really bad at writing and describing myself. I guess I just don't like doing that. I feel conceited when I write like that.

2:09 6th period. Physics and last class of the day. I was super nervous with physics. I thought I was supposed to get chemistry or something but noooo. I got Physics! I'm excited for that class because even though I'm going to need to work very hard it's going to be fun. Even with all those labs and creating objects that involve momentum. I think. :P But the teacher seems really strict. Chill but strict...I guess. We gave us a quick look into the next semester and we is not kidding when he says it's going to be hard work. Let's see how I do.

School ends at 2:49 PM. I was glad that school was over but I still had to walk. On my way out of school I met up with HIM. We kind of have a history together but it isn't that bad. I guess it's complicated. I said hi to him and then left quickly. I have confused feelings, okay? I finally make it outside and meet up, unintentionally, with two friends I always walked home with. We walked together, talked about random stuff and I realized that it was good to be back. It was excruciatingly hot outside, though. I was sticky by the time I got home.

Then the doorbell rang and it was the UPS man! I really love the UPS man. He's like my tooth faery. :P He brought me my CSN bookshelf and lead pencils. Don't ask why I bought those, I just did. So now I have a new bookshelf! I think I had a good first day.

How was your first day? And if you aren't in school, are you excited to go?

Nyxen Goes On Vacation

Well, this is it. This is a goodbye from me to you. I won't be on and I won't respond to any emails anymore... I am leaving you guys forever.

JUST KIDDING!

I hope you didn't believe that. That would have been a sad way to say I'm done blogging. But alas, that is not the case. I'm not done blogging but I am going away on vacation for a week.

Sadly, that's not where I'm going, though.

I'm going to Colorado from July 24 through August 1. But fear not my faithful followers! I will have scheduled posts and guest posts from some of my good blogger buddies and maybe even an author interview or two. (:

The theme (because we all need a theme once in a while) will be fairy tales! Read about what the authors/bloggers favorite fairy tales are. So stay tuned this whole week for something new! And I will see you in one week. Fairy Tale Week starts Monday the 26th. :D

Nyxen On Writing

I tend to be a very bad writer. Not in the sense that my writing sucks but that I don't write. For some strange reason, even with brilliant ideas forming in my head, I don't write. There's something in that begs me to write and write but I just don't. I can't tell whether I'm procrastinating or just lazy but I just don't write. It sometimes eats me alive because I have to write, I just have to.

My dream is to write books for people. That's what I want to do. But if I can't write anything now, will I be able to write in the future? Right now I am writing this post but I'm staring at this notebook next to me and it's begging to be written on. Either that or my characters just won't stop for a couple of seconds for me to finish this post. Whatever the case I have to write but I just can't. Has this ever happened to you? If so, what did you do?

I'm thinking I should lock myself up in my room and turn of every electronic device, grab my notebook and just write. That's what I did last night. It was very refreshing but the only problem was, I wrote at night.

There is no hope for me. But on a bright note I will write right now. There is no stopping me today! Hope you enjoyed my rant. Just thought I should get it out there.

Nyxen's Journey Through Doctor Who

The date was April 10th, 2010, a day that would inevitably change my life. I remember that day because it was a cold, and rainy day. Well, maybe I just felt that way since I was really sick. It was a Friday morning, I was sick at home and couldn't got to school, when I decided to open my laptop. Some might say that would have been the worst decision I could have made, but I say otherwise. On that Friday morning I started to watch a British television show by the name of Doctor Who. I've seen fan made videos of Doctor Who on youtube before but I've never really paid attention to the actual fandom. I was always caught up in something that I never bothered to take notice. Boy, would that change. Because of a couple of people at Twitter I decided to finally watch Doctor Who.

At first, I had no idea where to watch them, but then I found a couple of websites where I could. I started with season 1 episode 1. The very first episode with Christopher Eccleston, this guy to the left, and Billie Piper. I was a little sad at first because I thought David Tennant played the Doctor in the first episode. I resented Christopher at first, but then I grew to love him and his dorkyness. To me, at that point in time, there was no one else. I fell in love with the possibility that Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor could fall in love. But then it all ended and the Ninth Doctor regenerated. Season 1 ended and the Tenth Doctor, otherwise known as David Tennant, replaced the Ninth Doctor. I was very sad when Christopher Eccleston was replaced but I was super excited when David replaced him, finally!

Look at that sexy man. Isn't David Tennat dreamy? I admit it, I am crushing on an older man. I can't help it, he's THE DOCTOR. How can you not love him? Well, anyway, David Tennant replace Christopher for the second season and that's where you see his and Rose's relationship really start to blossom. You can immediately feel the chemistry radiating throughout them. It was as if they were meant for each other. (AND NOT RIVER SONG!)

But if you hang out with The Doctor, you should know that bad things are going to happen. At the end of season two, something bad happens - and I won't tell you what because I suggest you go watch it. It's so terrible that The Doctor loses his one true love - that's Rose by the way. I was so distraught by it all that I let a few tears escape. After Rose left, a woman by the name of Freema Agyeman, a.k.a Martha. I really got attached to Martha in the third season. She was witty and very funny. One of my favorite episodes included her in it. It was the second episode of the third season. I really felt their chemistry but in friendship form. I was still sad that Rose was gone. I thought she would never come back! But wait, what's this?

The fourth season comes along. Martha stays on Earth but The Doctor gets a new companion. This one took me awhile to get used to. Catherine Tate played Donna, the companion that most irked me. For some reason I couldn't get myself to like her. She was just to, ugh. But that was in the beginning of season four. Towards the then I fell in love with hers and The Doctor's strong bond. There was something special about her and you see what happens.

So, since the fifth season has ended. I think it's time to post about my one true love. From now on (maybe every Saturday) I will blog about each and every episode starting from Season 1 Episode 1. I feel like this is good to express how I feel about each and every episode.

Remember, this is for me. If you don't like Doctor Who then you don't have to read the posts. But if you do, then I want to know what your favorite episodes are! And if you have never watched it, well, then you must!

Nyxen's First Library Card

*Cowers in a corner*

You might be in a state of shock from the reading the title. I'll let you recover for a moment...

Okay, are you feeling okay? I hope so. I don't want this post to be the reason for your heart attack.

As the title says, I got my very first library card on Tuesday afternoon. I started thinking about plenty of things which led me to get a card. I was going to stay home this whole summer, nothing fun was happening and I was broke. Me being broke is the worst thing because I love to buy new books. But since I didn't have money, and the library was free I begged my Mama Nyxen to take me to the library. Well, we went and I was in awe. I've actually never been in library - besides school - and I have no idea why!

The library is an excellent place to read books, obviously, and to also study for major tests. I've always known that but it's fun to experience it first hand in a public library. I received a library card and immediately went to the Young Adult section. I spent quite some time there. I got three books (I'll show them in my IMM post) whilst my mom got sixteen. SIXTEEN! Can you believe that? But they weren't for her, they were for her preschool. Let's just say that I had fun in a library.

Libraries are cool. They have all types of books for all book lovers and if you don't have a library card, I suggest you get one, immediately. Libraries give you the chance to read the classics, science fiction, non-fiction, and even romance. It also expands your knoweledge in so many ways that you wouldn't regret picking up a book.

I still find it kind of horrible that at the age of almost fifteen I barely get a library card. I have been missing out. All I know is that the library will be my second home for the remainder of the summer. I'm so glad I live around the corner from it.

When did you get your first library card? Do you go to your public library often?
I want to know what you have to say.

Nyxen's Jouney Through Jackie's Quinceanera

May 15, 2010 was a very fun day for me and my friends. That day, one of my closest friends, Jackie, had a quinceanera. If you don't know what a quinceanera, it's a day where you celebrate a young girl's coming of age at fifteen. It's mostly celebrated within the Hispanic and Latino cultures but I think anyone could have one if they wanted to. What happens before the big day is a lot of planning. You must book a salon, a church, buy the cake, buy the invitations, send out the invitations, etc...

There is a lot of planning involved in doing a quinceanera and in the end it's always almost perfect. The places are usually beautiful and the birthday girl is gorgeous. And I was lucky enough to be apart of one (one of many).

This was the birthday girl, and one of my best friends. I've known Jackie since fourth grade and I was happy to celebrate her fifteenth birthday with her. I could tell you that she looks absolutely gorgeous. I was incredibly jealous of her dress and how pretty she looked. We danced the night away and I couldn't have felt happier that day. I was so glad that she asked me to be apart of her quinceanera. All I can say is that I had one hell of a time.

The whole day was filled with happiness, fun, and dancing. Going to her quiinceanera just made me want mine to come faster. Especially since the place she had it was at a beautiful garden. It was the most prettiest place I have ever seen. There was a small river with an arch type of thing. Gosh, I suck at describing. But the grass was gree, as in very green. There was hardly a dead spot of grass there. All I knew was May fifteen was one of the best days ever.

Nyxen's Review of Witch & Wizard

Witch and Wizard By James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet

EVERYTHING. CHANGES. NOW.

Imagine you wake up and the world around you-life as you know it-has changed in an instant. That's what has happened to Whit Allgood and his sister, Whisty. They went to sleep as normal teenagers, and woke up as wanted criminals. Accused of holding incredible powers they'd never dreamed possible. And now, just how different they are-special, even-if just beginning to be revealed in a strange new world.

It begins...now.
-From Barnes and Noble Website

I bought this book back in December when it was just coming out. I saw the commercial which mentioned Harry Potter and it immediately sparked my interest. Anything that revolves around Harry Potter, I must have. So, I bought it but never read it. I put it in my bookshelf and just left it. It wasn't until the beginning of this week when I decided to read it. I was curious as to what would happen. I have never read anything of James Patterson but I was anticipating some great things.

Once you open the first page, it's as if your in a trance and can't get out of it. From the very beginning, Whit and Wisty are caught in between what they thought they knew and the New Order. Whit and Wisty are whisked - I swear I won't use anymore 'W' words - away from the comfort of their beds in the middle of the night by the New Order. The New Order, to me, is the beginning of a new government turning into a Totalitarian society. They are takin the kids away from their parents and then are locked away in a prison until they are executed. Some of these kids aren't even teenagers yet. Whit and Wisty are taken away from their parents but are charged on the account of being a witch and a wizard. Whit and Wisty have no clue what the New Order is talking about. They are sent to prison, where it seems only kids reside, until they have to see The One Who Judges.

After being put to execution, Whit and Wisty try to escape. With the help of Whit's ghost girlfriend, Celia, they manage to escape the day before their execution. During their time in prison, Whit and Wisty learn that they indeed are a veery powerful witch and wizard. With no control over their magic just yet, they run for their lives and hope for the best. Escaping from the prison was just part of the novel. The remainder of the book shows us that The One Who Is The One - the man in charge of everyone and everything - wants something from Whit and Wisty but all they want to do it try and find their mom and dad. With the help of other children escapees, Whit and Wisty go on a journey to not only save their mom and dad but the rest of the children that are getting dragged away into a prison.

But you should know, nothing is ever quite that simple. With being the two most powerful beings, Whit and Wisty reach the Wanted list from the New Order. Their magic is slowly rreaching its high point but is that enough to save everything they once loved but is now lost? Not only that, but they find out about prophecies from The One Who Is The One involving them. One of them includes Whit and Wisty being executed. So, was escaping from the prison just a huge waste of time? Whit and Wisty don't think so. They want to put a stop to this totalitarian society once an for all.

I just loved every second of this book. I didn't read it in one sitting because I wanted to make it last. James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet keep the story line moving with the right dialouge and perfect descriptions. The action never ceases to amaze me and I was glad that I had finally read it. One thing that irked me was the way that it had ended. It was an open ending for a sequel, which is good, but a ton of things weren't explained. And I really don't want to wait until the sequel comes out. If there will ever be one.

All in all, I rate it Five Stars.

Nyxen's Journey Through Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day fellow bloggers and readers. How did you all spend this wonderful Sunday? Well, I'll tell you what my family did. We went to the Dodger Stadium!
Isn't that a wonderful picture? I spent the whole game taking pictures of all the players. I was excited. This was the first time I've sat field level. I was so close I could practically see their sweat. No, I'm joking. We weren't THAT close, but close enough. Today, the Los Angeles Dodgers played the Colorado Rockies. It was a pretty boring game with the score 2-0 Dodgers. Russel Martin hit a home run and I think Blake DeWitt scored. I can't remember. I was too busy admiring at how close we sat. Not only did we sit close, we also saw Dodger owner Frank McCourt.
This is my grandmother with him. She was very excited to take a picture with him. If you don't know yet, this blog won't just be about books and reviews. It's going to be about the journey of my life. Hence the name Nyxen's Sidewalk Journey Through Life. This is my life.

Here are some extra pictures:

That's me and my mom (or is it My mom and I?)

Nyxen's Journey Through Her First Communion

Over the past six months or so (it's actually been eight) I've been attending a class to receive my First Communion. If you don't have any knowledge of a First Communion then I will tell you. Your First Communion is the day when you finally receive communion. Communion is when you get to take the bread(the body of Christ) and the wine(the blood of Christ) for the first time. It's very common among Catholics to take communion every Sunday they go to church. Now, I'm not well educated on other religions so I'm not too sure if Christians do this too.

In order to receive your First Communion you need to take a class, Catechism. That's where you learn all about church, communion and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now, I'm not religious but it was very interesting learning about my religion. On May 2nd I got to do my First Communion so I am relieved that I got everything over with. So, now when I go to church every Sunday I get to eat the bread. But not drink the wine since it's disgusting! Red wine=death. I hate alcohol.

This is my brother and I taking pictures. I had to crouch down to his level to make him and I equal. He's so small. :)

We took pictures with our godparents because, well, shouldn't we? My godparents were my grandmother and my uncle. My brother's godparents we our uncle and aunt. They aren't married. just in case you were wondering. (:

One last picture. We took more but I think three pictures is enough to show.

I don't think this picture needs any explaining. That's our priest, along with me and my brother (or is it my brother and I?). It was a tiring day, May 2nd. Hooray.! Can't you just feel my enthusiasm?

Nyxen's Beginning in the Middle of the Year

Hello avid readers, writers and bloggers. If you are familiar with me then you would know that I've had plenty of blogs that all went down the drain. Well, no need to worry about that anymore.

Everyone has a story. Whether it may be short or long, or happy or sad. Not many people have the privilege to write their story so this is where that puts me. I won't let that privilege slip away. Every word, phrase, sentence and paragraph will be written. My life will be documented and it will rock. Okay, now I have no idea where I'm going with this. All I have to say is that everyone has a voice, and I'm speaking out.
